FAQ: FAQ

What makes CANHSHS special?

We strive for excellence by focusing every chapter year on either creating an enthusiasm for scholarship, rendering meaningful community service, encouraging and developing leadership, or fostering character and integrity. We are a student led NHS where parents are advisors and students are truly leaders. We do all of this through a fun peer environment for homeschool students with a student run government aspect. Also we are one of the few homeschool honor societies in the area to provide access to Presidential Volunteer service awards. (See question on PVSA for more info)

What is done in the meetings?

Every meeting is different but each one is always run by the student elected officers, with advisor oversight. The types of meetings we hold range from speaker meetings, to service project meetings, to social event meetings. Check out our Calendar page to get a glimpse into what the 2020-2021 honor society year will look like for CANHSHS.

What are the requirements to run for an Officer position?

For a majority of officer positions, the only requirement is to be a member of CANHSHS. However, for the presidential position, all candidates are required to have been in CANHSHS for at least one year before running. On top of that, all candidates are expected to be able to complete the responsibilities of their potential position. Check out our Members page and read the Officer Duties Descriptions document for more specific info.

What is the Presidential Volunteer Service Award?

The presidential volunteer service award provides an opportunity to receive a nationally recognized award for doing certain amounts of community service, depending on age. To learn more please visit http://www.presidentialserviceaward.gov/volunteer
